Two SMS Employees Find $6,000, Immediately Turn In

Posted 2009-08-27 15:17:47

Two SMS employees at Nashville International Airport recently stumbled upon large sums of money and, demonstrating honesty and integrity, immediately turned in the money.

On separate occassions, Roberto Medino Santiago found a wallet with $1,000 inside, and Tsedaly Eshetu found a sack containing $5,000. Both found the money around the gate areas of the airport while cleaning there. Santiago carried the wallet to the information desk, and Eshetu took the sack to a nearby police officer.

Though $5,000 or even $1,000 can be a tempting sum, Steve Kitchens, SMS Facility Manager at the airport, was not at all surprised that the employees turned in the money.

“That’s the kind of people we have here. They really take pride in helping and go the extra mile. They want SMS and the airport to be proud,” Kitchens said. “You could lay $100 down on the table and they’d start asking whose it was. Even the smallest things get turned in.”

The SMS management team is extremely pleased with the honesty their employees exhibited.

“This speaks highly of the caliber of staff we have working for us,” said Randall Britton, SMS Regional Manager.

According to Santiago and Kitchens, finding lost articles, especially wallets and cell phones, is a fairly common occurrence. Finding such large sums of money, however, happens much less frequently. SMS employees are instructed to notify their supervisor, the information desk or the police of any items they find.
